The Our Voice Our Time Project is a video project creating an opportunity for  Birmingham, Alabama youths and young adults to give voice to their thoughts, hopes and plans for their neighborhoods, communities and Birmingham at large. Through the immediacy of video and the impact of social media, our community’s youth will be empowered to curate and share their experiences and act as civic changemakers.

Our Voice Our Time recognizes the first-hand knowledge the younger generation has about where and how they live, and provides a channel for their problems, questions and solutions to be heard. It will also give them the agency to speak directly to community stakeholders, elected officials, and members of the media and business community. In this way, they can participate  directly in the conversation and offer a counter-narrative about their neighborhoods, communities and city.

Our Voice Our Time will identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to community success by asking the following:

• What is good about your community?
• What is holding your community back?
• What do you want to see happen in your community that currently is not happening?
• If you had the opportunity to speak with a school official, what would you tell them about education in Birmingham?
